The Red Sea Max 130D Fish Tank  is an upgrade to the original Red Sea Max 130. Among it's many new features are:

Improved filtering and circulation capabilities - The filtering system has been upgraded to decrease the restrictions of the water flow. The top of the fish tank hosts an adjustable surface skimmer which collects waste from the surface of the water. This means less maintenance for you. The new model also comes with a fittings accessory kit. The accessory kit fits into the back and it lets you add fish tank accessories such as chillers, external filters, UV sterilizers, and so on. The accessory kits are designed to be used with 5/8” pipes.

More lighting - timer controlled, 4 watts per gallon lighting. Also, upgraded twin 55 watt T5 Power Compact lamps for 110 watts output. An extra fan is also included to help cool off the tank during warm spells.

New cabinet options - You now have additional colors to choose from. The new black, silver, and pearl white color options make the Red Sea fish tank even more stylish. The cabinet also has a more stylish, and modern look to it. But it has funcitonal changes as well, particularly in that it has improved air flow over the earlier models.

Other Red Sea MAX fish tank improvements include:

  • Adjustable overflow box which gives you better surface skimming
  • The number of LED night lights has been expanded from two to four.
  • A better protein skimmer. The adjustable height neck allows for stable skimming over a broader range of conditions
  • Reduced clogging due to the coarser mesh used for the bio media bag.
  • Anti-drip strip on the skimmer compartment cover
  • An easier to use cable channel cover
  • The addition of rounded corners on the front of hood

Some of the upgrades merely improve the convenience aspect. The hood has been improved by the addition of a 3-stage opening. Now, it's possible to fully open the hood for any maintenance that you need to do to the aquarium. The cable channel covers are now easier to use, and the primary cord leaves the fish tank through a channel in the back of the aquarium rather than from the sides. As a user, you'll enjoy the instructional DVD that comes with the Max 130D. It'll guide you through the complete set up for a coral reef aquarium.

Bottom line - if you are looking for a low maintenance fish tank in which to grow a reef , the Red Sea max fish tank will serve your needs just fine. It'll allow you to focus on enjoying your hobby without a lot of the normal distractions that usually come with owning a fish tank.

All Glass Aquariums / Fish Tanks
In the debate between all glass aquariums and fish tanks or acrylic aquariums, the consensus seems to be for very large or custom made aquariums, acrylic is best.
